The New Mexico State men's golf team rebounded in the second round of the 2011 Golfweek Conference Challenge with a score of 8-over par, 296, five strokes better than in round one. The Aggies are 10th overall with a two-round score of 21-over par, 597.
"Started out poorly again with some bogeys early but I thought we hung in there and regained our focus and began to play some good golf," head coach Mike Dirks said. "I thought we improved from yesterday's round and Justin Shin had a strong day. Hopefully we can continue to improve each time we hit the course."
Senior Gaston De La Torre carded an even par, 72 in round two and is currently even par, 144 for the tournament after two rounds of play. De La Torre recorded one birdie and 15 pars on the day and is tied for 12th.
Junior Justin Shin slipped a little in round two with a 2-over par, 74. He carded three birdies on the round and is tied for 12th overall at even par for the tournament. Senior
cheap golf clubs Zachery Fullerton fired a 2-over par, 74 in round two, a five stroke improvement from round one. Fullerton carded one birdie and 14 pars in the round and is tied for 50th overall at 9-over par, 153.
Freshman Cosme Beamonte bounced back from a tough round one with a 4-over par, 76 in round two, improving five strokes. Beamonte carded a birdie and 12 pars in the second round and currently sits in a tie for 63rd at 13-over par. Junior Derek Baade rounded out the Aggie competitors with a 9-over par, 81. He tallied three birdies in the round and is tied for 73rd at 17-over par.
Chattanooga leads the tournament at 6-under par, followed by Oklahoma State (-4), Arkansas (-2), Iowa (E) and New Mexico (+4). Stephan Jaeger of Chattanooga leads the tournament as an individual at 8-under par.
The Aggies will be back in action for the final round of the 2011 Golfweek Conference Challenge Tuesday morning.
