Fifth full length album.
Was the first Finnish album to sell gold in the United States, meaning it has sold over there over 500,000 copies, and 1.000,000 copies worldwide.

Several of the songs include easter eggs. "Venus (In Our blood)" as a little girl's voice speaking at the beginning, in reverse the little girl says 'Where are we going, daddy?'. There is backmasked voice at the end of "In the Nightside of Eden" and "Behind the Crimson Door" as a whispering voice, apparently speaking Finnish, at the bridge of the song.

The Special Digibook Edition was released but was limited to 50,000 copies and included the track "The Cage". Also released was the Exclusive Heartagram Internet Edition which in addition to including "The Cage", included the track "Venus (In Our Blood)". The Heartagram Internet Edition only produced 20,000 copies to be sold. The Japanese version of "Dark Light" also featured the track "Poison Heart".

oh , i've found them on a him myspace group , and yeah , is always so nice to hear this little stories ,memories about the songs

lately i've been having sort of a DarkLight listening period going on so it's really nice to see these. can't really say which is my fav. with HIM one can never have faves...

for me it's Play Dead , i'm like bewitched when i hear this song ,i felt like under a spell from the first moment i've heard it ,

Killing Loneliness-This song may sound like it's about a lonely person, but according to lead singer Ville Valo, he wrote it about his close friend Brandon Novak, who used to be a junkie, a user of heroin. Novak called heroin "His Companion" and blamed his Heroin Addiction on the need to "Kill His Loneliness," since he was abandoned by his family.
The first part can be interpreted in a different way than its actual meaning: "Memories sharp as daggers pierce into the flesh of today The suicide of love took away all that matter and buried the remains in an unmarked grave." The different interpretation is how memories of an old relationship can come back to haunt us in the future, even if we think that they are dead and buried.
The Path- This song is sung from the perspective of a man whose soul is roaming until it finds true love, and although it's difficult to find it, his heart and soul carry on. While roaming, he tries to get the answers to his questions.
Venus (In our Blood)-Lead singer Ville Valo: "In some old myth, the 7 towers and the water in the ocean are Hell - that's in the chorus of the song. In a way, it's a song about a young person who shouldn't be taught and subjected to religion, but who should instead figure out things in their own mind. And it's not necessarily just about religion - it could be about world politics as well. And of course, there are secrets in that song that I won't reveal."
Wings Of A Butterfly-Lead singer Ville Valo has explained this song at concerts. He says that the song is about how you cannot have something new without sacrificing something to get it. In some cultures, it is believed that butterfly wings can lead to immortality, and the song asks if you are willing to destroy something to get what you want.
