Continental Europe showed early on Friday that they are not about to hand over the Seve Vivendi Trophy on a silver platter.
As the second round of Fourball matches was reaching the halfway stage, Jean Van de Velde's men were leading in three of the five them as they look to erase the three-point deficit they incurred ont he opening day at St-Nom-La-Breteche. (Ping G20 Iron Set with Green Dot)
While Great Britain & Ireland captain Paul McGinley decided to stick with the partnerships that had served him so well on Thursday, Van de Velde rung a few changes for Friday that appear to have paid off.
Peter Hanson and Alexander Noren started strongly against the English pair of Robert Rock and Ian Poulter, who had won so convincingly on day one, and were 2-up through 12 holes after birdies at the second, fourth and fifth holes.
A birdie from Rock on the sixth helped pull things back, however.( Ping G20 Iron Set with Green Dot)
Nicolas Colsaerts and Matteo Manassero were faring even better against Scott Jamieson and Ross Fisher by playing Ping G20 Iron Set with Green Dot, and were 3-up through 11 holes after birdies on the first, third and sixth.
Spanish duo Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal were also faring well against by Ping G20 Iron Set with Green Dot Open champ Darren Clarke and Dave Horsey, 2-up through 10 holes after going one down early before Larrazabal hit back on the fourth to draw level and subsequently pull away.
GB&I were ahead in the remaining two matches, however.
In the opening match, Simon Dyson and Jamie Donaldson were again on form, and had their noes in front, 1-up through 14 holes.
Worksop duo Lee Westwood and Mark Foster, the only losing pair for GB&I on day one, looked to be coming back strongly against Anders Hansen and Francesco Molinari, and were 2-up through 11.
